Amazon on Wednesday opened its Appstore for Android in Japan, representing the store?s first push into Asia.
The store is live now, boasting apps for Android phones and tablets, including local favorites in Japan like the mushroom-growing game Mushroom Garden and the news app Yahoo Headline. Japanese customers will also find best-sellers like the games Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope.
Japan is Amazon?s seventh market launch for the Appstore, after the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Like the other locations, the Appstore in Japan offers a paid app for free every day. In addition, apps purchased from the store can be used across a customer?s Android devices, including Amazon?s line of Kindle Fire tablets.
?The Amazon Appstore connects app and game developers across the globe with Amazon?s enormous customer base, and we?re excited to expand that audience to our millions of customers in Japan,? Jim Adkins, vice president of the Amazon Appstore, said in a statement. ?Now our customers in Japan can find all of the apps and games they?re looking for and can take advantage of popular programs like Free App of the Day.?

Amazon also last month launched its Cloud Drive service in Japan, giving users in the country the ability to upload and store digital files in the Amazon Cloud and access them from any PC, Mac, or Android device.
