Leonard Nimoy: 'We're Talking' About Returning For 'Star Trek 2'

Leonard Nimoy has lived long and prospered as Spock for many years, though his final appearance alongside the good men and women of Starfleet seemingly occurred in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot some years ago. Not so fast, it turns out. Nimoy spoke with CNN last week during the launch of the space shuttle Enterprise [...]

Skywalking: Russian Teens Risk Death for Daredevil Photos [Video]

This latest teen photo trend might be the clearest illustration of the difference between Russia and America. We lie down on stuff. They pose, or Skywalk, hundreds of feet in the air with nothing between them and the sudden splat of failure. More »

Apple = Sony? Don?t You Believe It.

Forrester CEO George Colony has written a controversial blog post provocatively titled "Apple = Sony" in which he argues that now that Steve Jobs is dead, Apple is coasting on fumes and will begin its inevitable decline within the next two to four years. Much of Colony's argument comes down to this assertion: that there is no longer a 'singular charismatic leader' at Apple. When it comes to reality distortion fields, Tim Cook may be no Steve Jobs, but much of what Colony says about the vacuum of leadership at Cupertino is completely untrue. In fact, Apple's arguably in better shape now than it ever was when Jobs was at the helm.

MarkaVIP Secures $10 million As The Middle East Takes Off

Screen Shot 2012-04-25 at 15.57.20Online private sales burst onto the scene a few years ago in the shape of Vente Privee in Europe and, later, Gilt in the US. It's a model we all know and love - and it's rapidly proving a model with which emerging economies are, well, rather obsessed. I was just recently in Istanbul where you can almost throw a stone and be sure of hit a private sales startup entrepreneur. And from there, and across the Middle East and North Africa (known as MENA), online businesses are growing like weeds. And some investors know it. Thus today MarkaVIP, a runaway private sales success story in the Middle East has completed a $10 million Series B funding led by European venture firm Prime Ventures. It's joined buy participation from New York City-based Invus Financial Advisors (IFA), Antwerp-based Hummingbird Ventures, and San Francisco-based Lumia Capital.

Is Russia now the strongest backer of peace in Syria?

Russia has emerged as a strong backer of Kofi Annan's peace plan for Syria, and is now hammering Western nations for not doing enough to support it.

Russia today challenged Western countries to get behind United Nations envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan for Syria, or accept the blame for its failure.

It's a new role for Russia, which endured months of accusations that it was blocking a solution for strife-torn Syria after it vetoed two UN Security Council?resolutions in the past several months?calling for the removal of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.? ?

But last month, Moscow threw its weight behind Mr. Annan's plan to end the year-long uprising, which has killed more than 9,000 people by UN estimates. It called for a withdrawal of all government forces from Syrian towns and cities, followed by a shaky cease-fire that went into effect last Thursday and appears to be just barely holding despite multiple violations alleged on both sides.

Speaking in televised remarks today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov implied that the shoe is on the other foot now, with Moscow strongly backing the UN peace plan for Syria and willing to hold both Mr. Assad and his opponents to task but, he alleged, the effort is being undermined by unnamed Western and Arab countries.

"There are those who want Kofi Annan's plan to fail," Mr. Lavrov insisted. "Today, those who from the beginning foretold the failure of Annan's plan are doing a lot to see to it that this prophecy comes true? They are doing this by delivering arms to the Syrian opposition and stimulating the activity of rebels who continue to attack both government facilities and civilian facilities on a daily basis."

The cease-fire remains "quite fragile" because of the reluctance of those outside forces to fully back the Annan plan, Lavrov suggested, although he added that Assad bears a share of blame for the continuing uncertainty. "Of course, government forces are also taking measures to react to such provocations, and as a result it is not all going very smoothly yet," he said.

Lane Garrison Not Charged in Domestic Violence Case ... Yet

Lane Garrison's lawyer said today that his client will not be charged with felony domestic violence for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Mattingly.

Yet, anyway.

Harland Braun says he spoke with the D.A. Tuesday and was told prosecutors don't have sufficient evidence right now to file a case against Garrison.

That could change, however, as the investigation continues. Lane's case remains under review and charges stemming from his arrest still could be filed.

Lane Garrison Hits Ashley Mattingly

There's also the matter of Garrison's 2007 DUI-manslaughter conviction.

Braun he is getting in touch with the parole board to see if the department will take action against the former Prison Break star for his role in this case.

Even though he hasn't been charged with domestic violence, Lane is currently under a parole hold in Beverly Hills jail while that matter is addressed.

Lane's former girlfriend, Ashley Mattingly, claims he attacked her Saturday night and says the surveillance video shows the alleged attack go down.

Braun says the surveillance video is deceiving and it actually does NOT show Lane striking Ashley, but merely trying to grab his phone back from her.

Braun says he believes his client was convincing when he spoke with Beverly Hills police detectives, and that's why no immediate charges have been filed.

The two definitely got into it in a bad way, but establishing whether a clear assault took place during the melee is a different story. Stay tuned.

'Twilight' Star's Nude Photo Scandal Rare For Young Cast

Kiowa Gordon's leaked pics might seem standard for young Hollywood, but 'Twilight' Tuesday notes that the cast has largely avoided scandal.
By Kara Warner

With all the glitz and glamour associated with being a young celebrity in Hollywood, it's hard to imagine there are any cons to fame and fortune. It's safe to say that one of the more precarious aspects of being universally recognized is the fact that any time a celebrity does anything worth a tweet, photograph or snarky comment, they have the potential to generate many a headline.

The amount of news coverage a star commands depends, of course, on the level of public interest, for which the minute details in the lives of Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and the "Twilight" cast are of great importance.

A lot of the newer stars find out about their headline-generating factor the hard way, as has been the case with Kiowa Gordon and a batch of private photos that were posted to a pornographic website. Never mind the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident; by all appearances, Gordon is doing his best to resolve the matter and move on. The "nude photos discovered" headline is so prevalent in pop culture that it's almost expected.

Speaking of expectations, because there are so many ways in which a young celeb might be photographed doing something naughty — they're teenagers, for cryin' out loud! — I think we can all take a moment to appreciate the fact that on the whole, the entire "Twilight" cast has done an excellent job in upholding the ideals associated with their role-model statues. There have been a few leaked photos here and there but no evidence of any kind of truly inappropriate behavior that is often associated with young stars. It really is an amazing feat when you think about how many young actors we're talking about and how scrutinized they are. When I think about some of the dumb things I did in my teens, I thank my lucky stars that Facebook and Twitter were not around. I can't even begin to think about how difficult it would be to navigate as a young celebrity.

So as much as we love to obsess over our favorite stars, let's try to not sweat the small stuff and appreciate them for being worthy of our continued admiration.

Why do you think the "Twilight" cast has largely avoided the typical pitfalls of young fame? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!

Google preparing to launch Google Drive this week with up to 100GB of paid storage?

Google Sydney

By now, Google Drive is no longer a secret. It has appeared enough times now to not only say it exists and is in development but to say that it's coming soon. The exact details behind its offerings haven't fully made their way to the internet but some information coming from Reuters may give further insight into what is already known:

Consumers will get 5 Gigabytes of storage for free with Google Drive, while various versions with incrementally more storage capacity, topping out at about 100 Gibabytes, will be available for monthly fees

Google will be looking to target both consumers and businesses with Google Drive so keeping up with competitors such as Dropbox, Box and Evernote will be vital for them. If the information we've heard thus far is accurate, they'll be well positioned to do so by taking advantage of some of their already existing products such as Google Images, Google Docs, Gmail and even Google+. When will it arrive to masses? No one is certain as of yet but it could be as early as this week, with some saying Tuesday will be the day.
